The brand's ethos encourages people to surround themselves with things that bring joy every day. BAUGHaus Design Lead Dana Baugh notes: “It is important to have products that make you happy when you use them. Something that allows you to slow down and smile because it reminds you of a blissful memory or a special person. The beauty of the item itself makes you feel good, and we all deserve that!”
Dana has focused on building her business and product production. This has included converting a shipping container into her fully-operational workshop and hiring three staff. Through consistent training, Dana wants to not only teach her team new skills but also empower them. “This is a career choice for them. Their sense of ownership is really important to me.”
Baugh’s work is inspired by her home country—she’s eager to present Jamaica from an authentic perspective. “It’s not just about coming to Jamaica and being inspired by the beach and the music; I want to show what it’s like for people who grow up there.”
I felt like this was something I would end up doing. Creating these products is the area I enjoy most and it comes naturally.
"I believe that we have 'cultural gold' and as such, it is our birthright to tell our story, instead of having others tell it for us or benefiting from our heritage," said owner and creative lead Dana Baugh.
Savanna-la-Mar resident Dana Baugh is the owner and lead designer at BAUGHaus Design Studio and a go-to resource for beautiful, handcrafted ceramics, lighting fixtures, furniture, and soft goods. She sits down with us for a gabfest that covers the art and function of design and the advantages of having an eye for detail.
Tropical colored hand-made porcelain home goods and island-inspired lighting fixtures. The collection is defined by simple shapes and marries traditional local materials such as Jamaica wood, clay, wickers and shell with white porcelain and the colors of the Caribbean.
